The society was registered on June 2, 1977, with a small membership of 163 drawn mainly from the teaching fraternity. The society has since grown to its current 5848 members. 

Over the years, membership has increased owing to the benefits that the SACCO has enabled members to achieve in terms of improved standards of living, asset acquisition, school fees, payments, financing development projects, and economic empowerment.
