LIMLAK SACCO Society Limited was established in 2003 as the Limlak Welfare Association, which was comprised of 11 businessmen operating in Limuru town. They faced common challenges such as a lack of capital financing, high interest rates charged by financial money lending institutions, and professional business consultations, among others. Forming the welfare association aimed at mitigating the challenges by providing cheap finance and holding education seminars aimed at improving their business operation skills.
The name Limlak denotes Limuru, Lari, and Kikuyu constituencies. The choice of name was influenced by the fact that the founders hailed from these regions. However, members from other regions were allowed to join the association.
LIMLAK SACCO transformed from a welfare association to a cooperative society limited in 2013 after attaining a membership base of 180 members. The current membership is over 1,000, with an asset base of over KES 150 million.
