Wakenya Pamoja SACCO Society Limited (WPS) began in 1976 as a part of Kisii Farmers Co-operative Union (KFCU) and gained independence in 1992, becoming Gusii Farmers Rural SACCO Society Limited (GRFS). 

Through governance reforms, it expanded its services to include microfinance and value chain financing. Notably, the Board of Directors and Senior Management financed these initiatives, making them sustainable.

WPS operates under the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) and holds a deposit-taking SACCO business license. The Society's structure includes various committees, and day-to-day management is overseen by the CEO and staff in different departments.
